Current Condition

Most of the buildings windows are boarded up, but it remains in use. Long standing tenants Gallagher and Bates Jackson still occupy portions of the building.

History

  • 1909 - Constructed by Nathan Gutman and William Sperling for the manufacture of men's and boy's trousers.
  • 1910 - Bates Jackson Printers and Engravers becomes another tenant.
  • 1919 - Gutman and Sperling go out of business. Primary tenants are Bates Jackson and an artisan jewelry collaborative.
  • 1940s - Gallagher Elevator moved into ground floor.

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • Sept 2012 - Roger Trettel purchase building for $375,000 from Digital@BatesJackson LLC. Plans call for 12-16 residential units and some loft-style office space.
  • September 2014 - $3.8 million project will be known as the Buffalo Green Technology Center (BGTC).

  • 2012 plans would include the renovation of a 2 story carriage house in the rear that was originally associated with a mansion on the property before construction of the Gutman Building
