Original 1852 four-story brick commercial building connected on the interior with a 1920s six story concrete building. Combined 55,000 sq.ft.

History

  • Originally built as a sarsaparilla, gingers and bitters manufacturer in 1852 Buffalo Rising
  • "The six Turner Brothers were manufacturing soda water, ginger wines, berry wines, and medicinals in Buffalo, New York as early as 1847. By 1853, they had opened a branch depot in San Francisco and were listed as syrup and cordial manufacturers. The Turner Brothers advertised in the October 1858 Nevada Journal newspaper that they are manufacturers of Turner’s Ginger Wine, Forest Wine Bitters, syrups, cordials and an unrivalled Vegetable Bitters. Sometime in 1865 the Turner Brothers sold the business to the firm of McMillan and Kester and thereafter McMillan & Kester start advertising that they are the proprietors of the Turner brands."   • 2007 - Owner Fred Lafaso announces plan to sell (list $595,000) or renovate the building
  • 2011- Lafasso considers conversion of older structure into 21 residential lofts
  • 2012 - Says LoFaso: “The site was accepted into the DEC Brownfield program. The contamination was a result of underground storage tanks on the adjacent carwash site 285 Niagara Street which will be included in the development.”
  • 2012 - "A mix of residential, office and retail uses are planned in what is being called the Niagara Bicycle Building...Green Options Buffalo (GO-Buffalo) (would be) taking most of the complex’s 11,160 sq.ft. first floor" Buffalo Rising
  • January 24, 2014 - Fred LoFaso’s Fairmount Development Inc. sold the building to architect/developer Jake Schneider's Niagara Street Buffalo LLC for $1,350,276.01.
  • December 2014: "The Erie County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors approved $420,000 in sales and mortgage tax savings for the adaptive re-use of 295-305 Niagara Street by Schneider Development. The series of buildings totaling 55,000 sq. ft. will be renovated into forty market rate apartments and 9,400 sq. ft. of ground floor commercial space for Ru’s Pierogies, a start-up food manufacturer." via Chris Schmidt at Buffalo Rising.
