History

  • 1890s - Fire destroys The Arcade building at 395 Main. It is replaced with the Brisbane Building.
  • 1893 - Edward Kleinhans and his brother Horace opened Kleinhans department store, and shortly there after move to the Brisbane Building
  • 1895 - Seymour Knox moves his five and dime store to the Brisbane. He later merged his 100+ stores with those of his cousin Frank Woolworth to form the F. W. Woolworth Company.
  • 1992 - Kleinhans Department Store closes after 100 years in Brisbane.
  • 1997 - Woolworth closes after 102 years in Brisbane.
