Physical Description

10 story white terra cotta building

Current Condition

Demolished in 1981. Replaced in part by an add-on building and vehicle drop-off to Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Genesee Building

History

  • Pearl Street Presbyterian Church constructed on site in 1848. It stood until 1909 when the congregation sold the land for their move down Main St.
  • The Majestic Theatre was built on the property in 1912 and stood until 1927.
  • The A. Victor & Company, a well-known buffalo furniture department store, built the Victor Building in 1927. It stood at the site until 1981.
  • In 1981, a bland extension of the Genesee Building was constructed on the site. Genesee Street, a vital east-west corridor of the city, was also blocked.
