Near Miss

These Saved Buildings were near misses. They were saved, sometimes at the last minute, from the wrecking ball, or had deteriorated to such an extent that many people said they were "beyond saving". Some of them were in the "wrong neighborhood" to be considered worth saving, or were surrounded by the ghosts of demolished buildings.

Yet they stand today, in productive use and of social and economic value to the community.

The photo shows the enormous, years-long hole in the roof at The Graystone, now a vibrant apartment building near downtown Buffalo.
