Physical Description

The church mimics the romantic Medievalism of the H. H. Richardson State Hospital. Its slender tower is directly inspired by the 12th century church of St. Philibert in Tournus, France and its interior vaulted ceiling and doming recalls St. Mark's in Venice.

Current Condition

Currently in use, however it is falling into disrepair due to the inability to keep up with repair costs

History

  • The First Presbyterian boasts the oldest congregation in Buffalo.
  • The building was constructed after a large increase in the congregation's numbers in 1891 by the Green and Wicks Architectural Firm.

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • February 2014 - Buffalo Rising reported that the congregation is trying to raise $323,000 to repair the structure of the tower, as well as needing $1.2M to replace the building’s slate roof.
