Physical Description

Three story, (reportedly either 6,200 or 7,680 sq.ft.) brick commercial building with rusticated stone facade, Florentine-arched windows, and stone cornice

History

  • Current facade built in 1928 for William H. Smith. The building itself may have existed previously but its appearance was substantially modified.
  • Called the Hudson Building after the original architects, Hudson & Hudson
  • Former Christian Science Reading Room

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • 2013 - Purchased by Peter and Rebecca McCauley for $230,000
  • 2013 - $600,000 renovation into apartment, office, and retail space underway. Owner is working with Preservation Studios to obtain preservation tax credits.
  • June 1, 2014 - Projected completion date of renovation project
  • October 22, 2014 - The Erie County Industrial Development Agency placed an application for $35,000 in tax breaks for the renovation project back under review
  • December 2014 - The Erie County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors approved a $35,000 in sales tax savings for the project
