History

  • Designed by architects Dietel, Wade & Jones (George J. Dietel, John J. Wade, and Sullivan W. Jones) construction began in 1929 and was completed in 1931. However, the building was not dedicated until 1932 to commemorate the City Centennial.

Recent Events and Actions Taken

  • Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999

  • The building displays many elements of the Buffalo area history including the construction of the Erie Canal, themes of the Iroquois Nation, Buffalo's industrial spirit, and statues of Buffalo-born presidents Grover Cleveland and Millard Fillmore.
