History

  • General David Burt built a mansion on this parcel in the early 1800s.
  • 1851 - Burt sells the property to the City of Buffalo for use as a school
  • 1854 - Central High School opens
    • The city twice expanded the building
    • It was Buffalo's only high school until 1897.
  • 1914 - City builds Hutchinson High School as a replacement
  • 1921 - Parcel sold to the state for $401,000. The profit went towards the construction of City Hall
  • 1926 - School demolished
  • 1928-1932 - Current building constructed. Designed by Green & Wicks
